Shelter Reservations Fifteen park shelters are located throughout the Blue Springs park system which are available for reserved use. For a $15 fee, these shelters may be reserved by Blue Springs residents for up to a five-hour period. Baumgardner and Hidden Valley shelters are available at a cost of $30 for up to five hours of use. The shelter at Hidden Valley is only available for rental during the month of August. Although you may inquire about shelter availability via phone, actual reservations need to be made in person at the Parks and Recreation Department's front desk unless you are paying by Master Card or Visa. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance of the event. To make the reservation process as convenient as possible, the front desk has a Park Shelter Manual which features photographs of each of the shelters and park sites that can help in making your selection. In addition a 22-foot gazebo is located at Rotary Park at Railroad Lake. This scenic facility overlooking a lake is also available to Blue Springs residents for a $15 fee. The "Picnic/Pool Combo" If you are organizing a group function, family reunion, or similar get-together, Baumgardner Park is the place to be this summer! For groups that reserve the shelter at Baumgardner Park, wristbands may be purchased that allow members of the group to utilize the Centennial Pool-Plex. Unlike regular daily admission at the pool, Picnic/Pool Combo wristbands allow individuals to come and go from the pool area for the entire time it's open to the public that day. You can reserve the Baumgardner Park shelter and purchase Picnic/Pool Combo tickets at the Parks and Recreation Department's front desk at City Hall. Call 228-0137 for availability. Fee Schedule: $30 for shelter reservation; plus $3 per person for pool entry. Picnic Kit Reservations For an additional five dollars, you can also have plenty of play equipment on-hand to help liven up your shelter function. The Parks and Recreation Department offers "Picnic Kits" that include the following items: Whiffle Ball and Bat, Soccer Ball, Football, Frisbee, Horseshoes, and Volleyball and Net (poles not included). Other activity items are also available at no additional cost upon request including Tennis, Croquet, Badminton, Softball and Basketball. The fee for this service is only $5.00, along with a $25.00 refundable deposit. Kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make your arrangements as soon as possible at the Parks and Recreation Department's front desk at City Hall. Ballfield Rentals Departmentally-affiliated athletic leagues have prioritized use on ballfield and volleyball court facilities. If these facilities are not being utilized, they are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis. However if a team arrives at the facility for a league practice or game, your group will be required to complete or move its activity. Vesper Hall The new community center for Blue Springs is open and available for group rental purposes throughout the year. The 14,000 square-foot facility is located at 400 NW Vesper, adjacent to Rotary Park at Railroad Lake. Rental packages are available for the entire building, the large multi-purpose room, or for one of the small meeting rooms. For information concerning Vesper Hall availability and rental fees, call 816-228-0182. Blue Springs Civic Center Located at 2000 W Ashton Drive, it is also available for rental, and is ideal for larger events such as dances and stage performances. For Civic Center reservations, contact the R-IV School District at 816-224-1300. Centennial Pool-Plex The indoor 25-yard pool, is available for private rentals on Fridays after 7:30 p.m. and Sundays after 6:30 p.m. Sundays are available after 6:30 p.m. until January, 2000.
